Infineon Technologies AG is taking another decisive step toward establishing itself as a major force in gallium nitride (GaN) technology while reinforcing its global leadership in automotive semiconductors. The company has unveiled its first GaN transistor family qualified under the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) standards for automotive applications, marking a key milestone in its GaN roadmap.

The newly introduced CoolGaN™ Automotive Transistor 100 V G1 family is now entering production, with Infineon also providing samples from its pre-production lineup that meet AEC-Q101 automotive qualification. This includes both high-voltage (HV) CoolGaN Automotive Transistors and bidirectional switches. Through this expansion, Infineon reaffirms its dedication to delivering advanced power solutions that align with the evolving demands of modern vehicles - from low-voltage infotainment architectures powered by the new 100 V GaN transistors to future high-voltage designs supporting onboard chargers and traction inverters.

Today's vehicles, equipped with increasingly sophisticated systems such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), next-generation climate control, and immersive infotainment, require greater power efficiency and performance while conserving battery capacity. Consequently, demand is rising for compact, highly efficient power conversion technologies - a need perfectly addressed by GaN semiconductors. Compared to traditional silicon devices, GaN-based power components deliver superior energy efficiency, reduced size, and lower overall system cost.

As automotive platforms transition from conventional 12 V architectures to advanced 48 V systems, particularly in software-defined vehicles, GaN technology plays a pivotal role. It not only enhances system efficiency and performance but also enables innovative functionalities such as steer-by-wire and real-time chassis control, contributing to improved driving comfort and precision handling. With their exceptional efficiency and compact design, Infineon's new 100 V CoolGaN transistors are particularly well-suited for applications including zone control units, main DC-DC converters, high-performance auxiliary power systems, and Class D audio amplifiers.
